We cleaned ponds in Meerut and converted Trash to value for Rural livelihood with Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) and Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET). Jalkumbhi (water hyacinth), free floating aquatic plants produce a dense canopy at the water surface. This exotic pest plant endangers growth of native flora and fauna and is also responsible for harboring mosquito larvae. Being an excellent source of lignocellulosic biomass, post-harvest and sun-drying, the stems are braided and stitched up to give the preferred shapes by our self help groups.
