Abhya Life Foundation has embarked on a beautiful journey to bring smile to million faces. In our continuous endeavors to support education for less privileged children, our Director-Dr. Shikha Dhawan was at Sainji, an offbeat village in Himalayan Valley of Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand. The village is popularly known as the corn village of India. The moment you step in the village, you are enthralled to see that all 35 houses have bunches of corn adorning their homes. Though the aim is to dry the corn, it adds to the aesthetic beauty of this calm and serene village.

In addition to the corn, the villagers produce vegetables and high-grade, high-quality turmeric for local consumption. The turmeric produced definitely holds commercial potential with linkage to prospective buyers and outside markets.

Mr. Kunwar Singh ji, the village Pradhan and Mrs. Lori his Canadian wife have set up the Garhwal English Medium School to provide quality education to the children. They also run a restaurant where local corn delicacies can be sampled and a bakery where Lori makes goodies based on her mother’s recipes. The proceeds from the sales go towards development of the village and education for children.

We invite you to visit the village on your next trip to Tehri Garhwal, interact with Mr. Kunwar and Mrs. Lori and get inspired by their wonderful endeavors and contribute to their cause, like we did.
